Win Subst is a free tool for Windows to substitute a drive letter to a local folder on the same computer, just like the old DOS subst command. For example, you could use Win Subst to map your Google Drive folder stored at C:\Users\[your name]\Google Drive to a drive letter like S:\. Whenever you click on the S:\ drive in the Windows Explorer or My Computer you would actually be redirected to the Google Drive folder and you can view or modify all files and files as they where stored on drive S:\. This can be useful in so many different situations, it allows you for example quick access to files that are stored deeply on your computers hard-drive. Also it can help you to overcome limitations when working with paths that are longer than 256 characters.
Win Subst can minimise to the system tray. By minimising the program to the system tray Win Subst is no longer visible on the screen. To restore Win Subst from the system tray simply click on the Win Subst tray icon.
Win Subst is released as freeware (not as free or open source software). Win Subst contains no advertisement, in-app purchases, hidden fees, or disabled functionality. The usage of Win Subst is licensed to you for free in accordance with the terms and conditions as described in our End User License Agreement (EULA).
Virtual drives created with Win Subst are system wide available for all programs as long as Win Subst is active. Closing Win Subst will automatically disconnect all virtual drives. Please note that Windows will also automatically disconnect all virtual drives when ending your Windows session (log off / shutdown / restart).
Drag and Drop
Win Subst supports drag and drop both individual folders and project files from the Windows Explorer.
Substituted drives be saved in Win Subst project files for easy access each time you continue working on your computer.
Win Sub automatically detects already substituted drives each time you run Win Subst. Found substituted drives will be added to the Win Subst interface.
