Temporary Font Manager is designed to load fonts temporarily into the Windows environment without the need to install fonts into the Windows fonts folder. Temporary Font Manager works with TTF (Raw TrueType Font), OTF (PostScript OpenType Font) and FON (Font Resource File) font files. Temporary Font Manager has been tested on Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Why Temporary Font Manager

Temporary Font Manager is primarily developed for those who need to work with fonts on school, university or company computers and are not allowed to install fonts permanently into the Windows environment. Insufficient or restricted user credentials can disallow users to install fonts into the Windows fonts folder. If this sound familiar to you than consider downloading Temporary Font Manager. Temporary Font Manager can temporary install fonts from any location on your hard drive, cloud storage or USB device. Due to it’s portable design no installation is required. The program itself can execute from portable media like USB devices or external hard drives.

Temporary Font Manager can also be of great support if you, for example, work with a lot of different fonts on a daily basis. It is probably not your preferred choice to permanently install dozens of fonts as it will slow down your system. Temporary Font Manager can be a great alternative for those people.

Temporary Fonts

Fonts installed with Temporary Font Manager are system wide available for all programs as long as Temporary Font Manager is active. Closing Temporary Font Manager will automatically uninstall all temporarily installed fonts. Please note that Windows will also automatically unload all temporarily installed fonts when ending your Windows session (log off / shutdown / restart).

System tray

Temporary Font Manager can minimise to the system tray. By minimising the program to the system tray Temporary Font Manager is no longer visible on the screen. To restore Temporary Font Manager from the system tray simply click on the Temporary Font Manager tray icon.

Strict loading / unloading

Temporary Font Manager uses the default Windows API to temporarily install and uninstall fonts. On very few computers the default API might cause problems with temporarily installing and uninstalling font files due to insufficient credentials. If Temporary Font Manager seems to freeze on your system simply uncheck the “Strict loading / unloading fonts” checkbox and Temporary Font Manager tries to resolve credential limitations by using an alternative method for temporary installing and uninstalling fonts.

Freeware

Temporary Font Manager is released as freeware (not as free or open source software). Temporary Font Manager contains no advertisement, in-app purchases, hidden fees, or disabled functionality. The usage of Temporary Font Manager is licensed to you for free in accordance with the terms and conditions as described in our End User License Agreement (EULA).

Drag and Drop

Temporary Font Manager supports loading of individual fonts, supports scanning a folder including all sub-folders for available fonts and supports drag and drop fonts from the Windows Explorer.

Project files

Lists of fonts can be saved in Temporary Font Manager project files for easy access each time you continue working on your projects. Temporary Font Manager project files can also be opened by double clicking project files from the Windows Explorer. Command line batch support for project files is also included. For example “tfm.exe demo.tfml” will load all fonts from the project file demo.tfml into Temporary File Manager.

Crash recovery

It is not our intention that Temporary Font Manager crashes but in the off-chance that this happens Temporary Font Manager will automatically recover the state of all temporary loaded and installed fonts on restart.

Issues and limitations

Temporary Font Manager 1.1x is still in development. The short list below shows currently known issues and limitations:

• 32 bit version (x86) is not available and support for 32 bit environments will not be implemented.
• support for obsolete Windows versions like XP, NT4, 2000 and Vista will not be implemented.

Temporary Font Manager is available for download as a “ZIP” archive. Unzip Temporary Font Manager to any folder you prefer using the build-in Windows decompressor or a free archiver tool like 7-ZIP. Double click “TFM.exe” after extracting the ZIP archive to run Temporary Font Manager.
